TREEPRESENTATIONS
Treepresentations is a series of four large scale paintings on wooden panels exhibited as part of '[met]afourisms' at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta, in 2018. Each painting depicts a de-contextualised local tree as seen through a window, juxtaposed with a sterile blue sky. The series of paintings responds to an aphorism and draws on the 'cropped landscape’ to question the stale nature-culture dichotomy. Through de-contextualization the paintings infer things that might neither be here nor there; allusions abound when we are confronted with images that (we think) we are familiar with.
Endless, relentless, detours
through contours. Everyday
things are simultaneous
elusions and allusions, a series
of inferences from differences
and deferrals.
