OLEA
Olea is a visual, audio and olfactory installation exhibited at the Malta Biennale in 2024. Running time: 8 minutes 30 seconds.
The work revolves around Olea, a temporal figure that inhabits an indefinite space located across epochs. The speculative narrative calls up a multiplicity of contexts whereby Olea may (re-) connect with the past by engaging with ancient fragments and conjectural settings, imbricating her personal and familial memories with collective ones. Illusion is seamlessly entwined with reality, unbounded and unclear. A palpable unresolved longing to go back to that ‘other’ place pervades the work but that place is mutually where Olea is now, and where she yearns to be. Presented as a walk through time and space the work explores notions of memory, belonging and becoming.
